WHO IS VIC?
I am a 21 year old AuDHD asshole switching to computer engineering with a stupid amount of artistic "talent", but my favorite hobby is using it for dumb bullshit. I am not remarkable in the slightest, other than my obsession over Shadow the Hedgehog and sonadow.

ARTFIGHT INFORMATION
Artfight Info:
Will Draw:* I will draw Sonic characters (OCs or AU, I don't really care, but I personally prefer more creative or pleasant looking characters with nice designs).
* If permitted, I will draw any characters (like human or feral) as Sonic styled characters.
* I usually draw fully polished pieces, they take a while though. Some pieces take a few days.
* Feral characters should be fine, I have two cats and I was obsessed with Warrior Cats when I was younger so I have some experience. Will Not / Might Not Draw:* I am not great at human proportions, so I'd rather not draw human characters. Humanoid should be fine though.
* The more detail, the longer the piece will take because I need to take more breaks to make sure I am not rushing things. Trust me, after drawing for 4-5 hours straight in a day, your braincells become more fried than KFC chicken.Extra Info:* I get burnout frequently for a variety of different reasons, which is why I usually don't draw unless I'm very motivated or compelled to. It depends on how it acts up.-------------------------------------
Art Program Opinions:Clip Studio Paint. The one I use currently. It has so many features and is made with the tablet in mind. I don't use a Wacom or any other graphic design tablet thing (I use my iPad and connect it to my PC) so seeing pressure settings on this program was a huge surprise - and it's awesome. I love the brushes included here and the features here have let me find the perfect lineart settings. I usually use this when I'm making something serious or using my laptop to draw.
PaintTool SAI2. SAI1 refused to work with my tablet so I couldn't really do much..... but SAI2 was awesome. This was really the first time I've been able to make custom brushes and understand how they worked. Also, the tools here are great and finally understanding the brush settings made it easy to make new ones that fit my art style. No pressure settings (not that I knew they existed) but despite that its such a great art program. I've made plenty of pieces on here and if not for CSP I'd use this all the time. I usually don't use it much anymore though, the lineart pens never clicked with me.
ibisPaint. I've only used this one on mobile, but for being a mobile app it has such a wide variety of brushes and options. I used this for a few months but it was the first time I've been able to make lineart somehow. The brushes worked really well for me and my only real problem with it is because it is a mobile app, it begins to lag horribly when you make anything on a larger scale (which is a problem because everything I make is usually on a larger scale). Pretty cool if you want a free digital drawing app. I don't use this much anymore because most of the pens are locked behind a paywall and I don't really want to spend money on a mobile drawing app when I have both CSP and PTS2.
Adobe Fresco. I've used this art program the longest - over 2 years starting from January 2020 (cuz I got a huge discount for being in a community college lol). The pencil brush blew my mind at the time, and after adjusting it a bit it's irreplaceable - it was literally the only thing I'd ever be able to comfortably sketch digitally until I got CSP. Also the oil paint tool here is so cool, it's really smooth and I've been able to make some epic stuff with it that just can't be done with any other program I've seen. I've only used it for my iPad so I can't say much for any other versions, but damn if not for it being an Adobe app this thing would be my first choice on mobile. Unfortunately, have fun with an expensive subscription model if you want to use this one long term, but it really is awesome.
Medibang. I've used this to color and lineart mostly. Sketching is alright, not the best I've seen but it works. The colors and brushes are fun to use and there's a nice amount of them. Since I only use the mobile version, it's a pretty good app to just have on my iPad when I'm bored in a large lecture class and need to draw, but it's not my first choice for something professional - it's more of a doodle ground with some cool brushes I can use to screw around with shading.
Procreate. I won't say it's say shit because it's not. It has a lot of cool features in it and they are very useful. But there are some that I use all the time and they're just not in this one. The pencil here is very smooth and fluid though, which is a great plus (I used to sketch here and color in Medibang) but I'm assuming it's for less lineart based stuff? I couldn't get a hang of the lineart brushes her, so I use it for the occasional rendered artwork that for some reason I don't want to do on Fresco.Ones I didn't get a good chance to try: Autodesk, Krita, Gimp

HOT TAKES

Hot Take | Explanation |
---|---|
The Sonic Franchise's 'Forbidden Ship' | By this I am referring to the ship with Shadow the Hedgehog and Amy Rose. It makes no canonical sense. Most people who debate over this logically say that Amy would grow up and see Shadow as a better partner for her when I believe in the contrary - she would appreciate Sonic a lot more due to her maturing and understanding his duties as a hero and seeing him handle it. Shadow does what he thinks is right instead of what would be better for the good of the world. Amy, someone who is very 'other people' focused, would have lots of trouble being compatible with Shadow, who frankly could give less of a shit. Shadow also would not care to wait for her to catch up with anything he does - he is as independent as it gets and he's not going to sacrifice his freedom to fit with her. She would only drag him down and bother him. |
The Adventure Era vs Modern Era Sonic Games | Many newer fans are starting to become like the older classic Sonic fans by saying that the Adventure era games are better than anything that the modern Sonic Team has created when that can't be further from the truth. We have had some objectively great Sonic games in the last 2 decades that weren't from the Adventure era, such as Sonic Generations, Sonic Unleashed, and even in a way we have Sonic 06 (hot take below). While yes, I agree that the Adventure games can't be topped because of their nostalgia factor and experimental nature, I believe that regardless we definitely have had some good Sonic games come out to prove those Adventure stans wrong. The saying that history repeats itself will come back to bite all of us in the ass - the classic Sonic fans wished to see older type games, which resulted in the disaster of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which I believe Sonic Team has learned from and are not repeating (but instead we have classic Sonic in modern games and I want to punch him in the neck). However, now that we have Adventure era stans, Sonic Team may try to replicate those games without taking into account what made them so fun to play, which will in turn make newer games worse because they are not trying to be original - they are trying to emulate something they can't: the experimental nature of the late 90s and early 00s. Although we may not have had totally great Sonic games recently, the modern Sonic Team definitely has done a good job in the past. I actually think the problem is with Takashi Iizuka, his different approach and target audience with Sonic games, and their shitty writing (thankfully Pontac and Graff are not writing Project 2022 so that's a relief). The issue is not with the style of the Adventure games, there are plenty of other Sonic games that have a great story and are fun to play. |
Sonic 06 | This is one that has started to not really be a hot take anymore but I have adored this game since like late 2020 or something and something about it always sparked my interest. I understood that the writing of this game wasn't the absolute best (cough cough A HUMAN KISSES SONIC ON THE LIPS cough cough) and there were a ton of unintentional glitches that just weren't fixed because of a tight deadline, but I don't think that disqualifies this game as a potentially good one. I could make this argument with Sonic Forces too, but the difference between those two is that one of them has the potential in the final product and the other does not. Sonic 06, other than the issues I mentioned above, is a good game. If the glitches were fixed and Elise wasn't such an annoying bitch to take care of, it would be a really good game, maybe even actually seen as the Adventure 3 of the Sonic series. The music in this game is so well done (marry me Mariko Nanba), so atmospheric and just really showcases the game it was made for. The models might just be a personal preference, but I absolutely love them because they look realistic compared to the humans in this game. The story also merges the playthroughs of the three hedgehogs in their correct, chronological order, the story makes enough sense to follow and every character has a role to play, even if they aren't playable through the main menu. Mephilis is probably my favorite villain of this franchise. Anyway, I'm just saying that there definitely was thought put into this game (at least in the beginning), the music made for it is very atmospheric and nice to listen to, the visual aesthetics of the game look consistent and despite the glitches and shitty ending, there is a level of effort that was put into this game that just wasn't achieved near the end. If there was more time for this game I think it would've been a big hit. |
Opinions of Tiktok Fans | I generally dislike these people because they're really annoying little kids who think they're cool because they like Sonic, but what really annoys me is the various opinions they have. First of all, they brought in the age related discourse (eg. Sonic is 15, Amy is 12, 3 year age gap. Even worse when you bring up that Shadow is physically over 50 but mentally around Sonic's age). We didn't have this beforehand, they just began restarting the ship wars but bringing morality into it for no reason. They are CODED into being certain ages, they are not specifically this age. Sega removed their ages because their fans vary from toddlers to adults. Sonic is coded as a young adult or teenager. Amy is coded to be slightly younger. Tails is coded to be much younger. That is what's important. Second of all, they claim that Sonadow is popular... which is clearly not true when you look at the rest of the fandom that used to fight over Sonamy vs. Sonally. Sonadow is NOT a popular ship in the fandom, in fact it is quite universally hated. It is popular in the LBGTQ+ Sonic subcommunity, yes, but by no means is it as overrated as Tiktok Sonic fans claim it is. They just don't interact with the rest of the community. They create their own little bubble and believe whatever they like in there. |
